Short description
A shaft generator produces electrical power using the main engine during sailing. It can also operate in reverse mode to support propulsion when needed.
What it includes
- Power take-off (PTO) from the main engine
- Power take-in (PTI) to support propulsion or manoeuvring
- Reduced use of auxiliary generators
Why it matters
Using the main engine for power generation reduces fuel use and emissions from auxiliary engines.
