Twinning to enable Baltic Sea maritime transport
meet Fit–for–55 regulations in decarbonization

The BALTIC-FIT is a project funded by the European Commission’s Horizon Europe Programme under the Widening “Twinning” instrument. The project will build a network of excellence between organizations from Baltic Sea Region (Estonia as a Widening country, Finland and Sweden) to enable Baltic Sea maritime transport meet ‘Fit for 55’ regulations in decarbonisation. The BALTIC-FIT will achieve this goal by implementing a three-year Innovation strategy, that includes joint innovation project, innovation workshops for industrial and maritime stakeholders, staff exchanges, and summer schools for the early-stage researchers.

What is new in BALTIC-FIT

On 17 June, at the ESREL SRA-E 2025 Conference in Stavanger, Norway, Kristin Kerem presented a new study developed within the BALTIC-FIT project. The study was co-authored by Prof. Ulla Tapaninen, Deniece M. Aiken, PhD, Kristine Carjova, and Teemu Manderbacka (VTT).

From 11 to 13 June, members of the BALTIC-FIT project are participating in the prestigious 16th International Conference on Marine Navigation and Safety of Sea Transportation (TransNav 2025), hosted by Gdynia Maritime University and The Nautical Institute.
