20th International Maritime Conference: Smart Maritime Economy in Focus

The 20th International Maritime Conference, titled “Smart Maritime Economy,” took place on September 27, 2024, in Tallinn, Estonia, bringing together key stakeholders from the maritime, transport, public, and academic sectors. The event, held in a hybrid format, was organized by the Estonian Shipowners Association, TalTech Estonian Maritime Academy, Tallink Grupp, and Corpore Conferences.

The event kicked off with an opening speech by Vladimir Svet, Minister of Infrastructure, who highlighted the importance of sustainable development for the future of the maritime industry. Experts and companies from Estonia and neighboring countries gathered to discuss digitalization, the green transition, and innovative technologies that can enhance efficiency and sustainability in the sector.

During the event were held two notable discussion panel. The first, “The Future of Maritime Education,” led by Vahur Ausmees, Member of the Board of the Estonian Shipowners’ Association, highlighted the importance of adapting maritime education to meet the evolving needs of the industry. The second panel, “Smart State = Smart Maritime,” moderated by Urmas Vaino, featured representatives from Estonia’s political and maritime sectors discussing the policies and strategies needed for a sustainable maritime future.

The BALTIC-FIT project team, led by project coordinator Ulla Tapaninen, actively participated in the discussions, sharing insights on digitalization, the green transition, and innovative technologies. The team’s engagement in these conversations not only provided important takeaways but also helped strengthen the project’s network by creating new collaboration opportunities with industry leaders, policymakers, and academic institutions.
