Two dynamic days are behind us at the BALTIC-FIT Summer School 2025, currently taking place at the TalTech Estonian Maritime Academy in Tallinn.
Yesterday, participants took part in an in-depth workshop titled “Structural and Regulatory Framework of IMO and Its Role in Maritime Decarbonisation”, led by Ellen Johanne Eftestøl (Norwegian Business School) together with experts from TalTech Estonian Maritime Academy – Ulla Tapaninen, Deniece Aiken, and Kristine Carjova.
The knowledge and insights shared during these days have already sparked lively discussions, fresh ideas, and meaningful international exchange.
Today, the third day began with an engaging simulation exercise – the “Future of Fuels Game” – facilitated by Dr Maurice Jansen (Erasmus University, NL). The serious game encouraged participants to explore fuel transition dilemmas through team-based challenges: one group used the Port Constructor tool to simulate port scenarios, while others analysed alternative fuel pathways using a dedicated calculation model.
The afternoon continued with a series of impactful lectures:
– Jonne Kotta (TalTech) on GHG Mapping and Modelling in Shipping and Digital Twin Applications
– Teemu Manderbacka (VTT, Finland) on Technological Opportunities to Reduce Vessel Emissions
– Mikael Lind (RISE, Sweden) on Opportunities Provided by Digitalisation to Decrease GHG Emissions
The day also includes a partner seminar and an excursion to the Estonian State Fleet for PhD students.
Stay tuned for more news and photos from the event — two more days of inspiring and intensive work still lie ahead!
