On 11 September 2024, Anna Zmiievska, a EU-funding expert from Anromind, delivered a workshop titled “Navigating EU Funds for Green Maritime: Initiatives and Successful Proposal Writing Strategies”, hosted at the TalTech Estonian Maritime Academy. Organised in the framework of the BALTIC-FIT project, this first session in a series of workshops was designed to enhance the consortium’s capacity to navigate the landscape of European funding opportunities successfully.
The workshop guided participants through the structure of Horizon Europe, proposal preparation best practices, budgeting principles, and strategic planning for project impact. Special attention was given to identifying relevant calls, understanding evaluation criteria, and aligning research ideas with EU priorities. The workshop also highlighted the EU policy and funding framework for Green Maritime, noting that the Baltic Sea is one of the EU’s strategic sea basins. It linked the European Green Deal and the Fit-for-55 package with sector-specific strategies such as the Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy, the FuelEU Maritime Initiative, and the Integrated Maritime Policy — all of which underpin Horizon Europe funding opportunities.
Practical tips and examples from successful proposals helped participants better understand how to improve the competitiveness of their applications.
The workshop was attended by young researchers and administrative staff from TalTech Estonian Maritime Academy research groups, as well as researchers from VTT and RISE Research Institutes of Sweden. More than 15 participants took part in person, with a further 7 joining online.
This training contributes directly to strengthening the consortium’s expertise in securing future EU funding and aims to foster the submission of innovative collaborative proposals for forthcoming EU calls.
