The 20th anniversary edition of Waterborne Days took place on 4-5 February 2025 in Brussels. Waterborne Days is recognised as one of the key annual platforms where researchers, policymakers, ports, shipbuilders, technology developers, and industry associations meet to exchange knowledge and shape long-term strategies for the sector.
The conference gathered more than 300 experts from across Europe to discuss the future of zero-emission waterborne transport, cooperation between research and industry, and the deployment of innovation towards 2050 goals.
The event featured keynote sessions with Magda Kopczyńska, Director-General of the European Commission’s Department for Transport and Mobility (DG MOVE) and Rosalinde van der Vlies, Director of the Clean Planet Directorate in the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Research and Innovation (DG RTD), highlighting how European research and innovation initiatives – such as the Co-Programmed Partnership on Zero-Emission Waterborne Transport (ZEWT) – contribute to decarbonising the sector.
The BALTIC-FIT project was represented by Riina Otsason, who participated in discussions related to zero-emission technologies, decarbonisation pathways, and sustainable maritime practices.
Participation in this event reinforced BALTIC-FIT’s mission to link regional innovation ecosystems with European research and industry platforms, supporting the transition towards a sustainable, digital, and resilient maritime future.
