From Open Science to Impact: Second Workshop on Dissemination, Communication and Exploitation

On 20 January 2026, the second capacity-building workshop on research dissemination, communication, and exploitation was held online within the framework of the BALTIC-FIT project. The session, titled From Open Science to Market and Policy Uptake in Maritime, was delivered by EU funding expert Anna Zmiievska (Anromind) and brought together researchers from the Maritime Research Group at the TalTech Estonian Maritime Academy.

The training built on the first dissemination and communication workshop held in May 2025 during the BALTIC-FIT Summer School and provided an advanced, impact-oriented perspective on how Open Science practices can support policy relevance and market uptake in the maritime domain.

Structured into three modules, the workshop addressed:

  • Module 1: Open Science Policy – exploring Horizon Europe requirements, open access publishing, FAIR data, and the use of tools such as Zenodo, OpenAIRE, and Open Research Europe.
  • Module 2: From Research to Commercialisation in Horizon Europe – focusing on impact pathways, stakeholder engagement, exploitation logic, and the role of Key Exploitable Results (KERs).
  • Module 3: How It Works in Practice – offering a practical walkthrough of upcoming Horizon Europe funding opportunities under Cluster 5 and Widening instruments.

Participants engaged in interactive discussions, with practical examples illustrating how to align scientific output with stakeholder needs, policy frameworks, and innovation strategies.

The session concluded with a Q&A and wrap-up discussion, reinforcing key messages on how Open Science and dissemination strategies can enhance both project implementation and proposal development.
