BALTIC-FIT Research Shared at TransNav 2025 Conference in Gdynia 

From 11 to 13 June, members of the BALTIC-FIT project are participating in the prestigious 16th International Conference on Marine Navigation and Safety of Sea Transportation (TransNav 2025), hosted by Gdynia Maritime University and The Nautical Institute. The event brings together maritime experts, academics, and professionals from over 80 countries to discuss innovations in marine safety, digitalisation, and sustainability

Representing BALTIC-FIT and the TalTech Estonian Maritime Academy are Prof. Ulla Tapaninen (BALTIC-FIT coordinator), Roomet Leiger (Director at TalTech Estonian Maritime Academy), Kristine Carjova, Kristin Kerem, Eliise Toomeoja, Seçil Oğuz, Pentti Kujala, Ahmed Nasr and Samuli Hanninen (ABB). The team contributes to three sessions with high-level academic presentations. 

In Session B6 “Aircrafts and Flying Drones”, Kristin Kerem presents the paper “Wing-in-Ground Crafts in Europe”, co-authored with Prof. Ulla Tapaninen and Kristine Carjova, exploring the potential of these innovative vessels for regional transport. 

In Session E3 “Ports and Harbours”, Eliise Toomeoja and Seçil Oğuz present “A PRISMA-Guided Systematic Review of Smart Ports: Trends and Future Research Directions”, co-authored with Prof. Ulla Tapaninen, offering valuable insights into port innovation and the future of digital maritime infrastructure. 

Meanwhile, in Session B2 “Safety at Sea”, Kristine Carjova presents a collaborative study titled “Assessing the Potential of Small Modular Reactors for Marine Applications in the Northern Baltic Sea”, co-authored by Prof. Ulla Tapaninen, Roomet Leiger, Samuli Hanninen, and Prof. Pentti Kujala
