BALTIC-FIT Staff Exchange at LUT University

On 9–10 October 2025, members of BALTIC-FIT — Prof. Ulla Tapaninen, Kristel Rauk, Dan Heering, and Kristine Carjova — visited the Lappeenranta-Lahti University of Technology (LUT) for a two-day staff exchange. Hosted by LUT experts from the School of Energy Systems and LUT Business School, the visit created a meaningful opportunity to connect maritime innovation with the latest advances in energy research and sustainability science.

Discussions with Prof. Jouni Havukainen, Lotta Apajalahti, Juha Haakana, Prof. Behnam Ivatloo, Ville Tikka, Petri Ajo, and Prof. Mari Kallioinen-Mänttäri, Dean of the LUT School of Engineering Sciences, centred on the intersections between renewable energy systems, electrification of transport, and circular economy models that could support greener port and shipping operations in the Baltic region.

Beyond exchanging expertise, the meetings sparked ideas for joint research, potential cross-sector innovation projects, and future academic cooperation between TalTech and LUT.

A big thank-you to our LUT colleagues for the warm welcome, open discussions, and inspiring collaboration spirit that truly reflects the shared ambition of driving the transition toward a sustainable maritime and energy future.
