As part of the BALTIC-FIT project, members of the TalTech Estonian Maritime Academy Maritime Transport Research Group started the new academic year with a study visit to two important Estonian ports – Sillamäe and Kunda.
The visits provided an opportunity to explore port operations first-hand and gain a closer understanding of the infrastructure and superstructure at both locations. Participants learned about the ports’ cargo-handling capacities and the different types of cargo handled, gaining practical insights into their day-to-day operations.
For BALTIC-FIT, study visits are an important way to connect academic research with real-world maritime practices. Direct interaction with ports helps researchers better understand current operational conditions and brings practical perspectives into ongoing research activities. Such exchanges also support the project’s wider goal of strengthening cooperation between researchers and maritime stakeholders in the Baltic Sea region.
