TalTech Estonian Maritime Academy Researchers Join International Dialogue on the Virtual Watch Tower

On 9 October 2026, members of the Maritime Transport Research Group  at TalTech Estonian Maritime Academy – Kristine Carjova, Ulla Tapaninen and Eliise Toomeoja – together with members of the BALTIC-FIT Advisory Board, took part in an international meeting with the Virtual Watch Tower (VWT) leadership and Steering Committee. The meeting focused on VWT’s progress and next steps towards operational use and global scale.

VWT aims to support risk management in global supply chains by enabling data sharing between transport stakeholders. The presentation covered the initiative’s community, governance, funding and technical development. A practical demonstration showed how applications can use data available through VWT to create value.

The researchers contributed to discussions on the benefits of jointly shaping VWT, the role of research and innovation funding, and technical progress. Participants also explored the importance of cooperation between organisations in moving towards practical implementation.

Special thanks to RISE Research Institutes of Sweden, particularly Mikael Lind and Johan Östling, for providing this opportunity to exchange knowledge, share perspectives and strengthen international cooperation.
